Privacy Policy
Introduction
MessageMate ("the App") is designed to help users safely and conveniently listen to incoming message notifications from supported messaging applications. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and how it is protected.
By using MessageMate, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information the App Accesses
MessageMate requires access to certain device notifications in order to provide its core functionality.
Specifically, the App may access:
- Notification content from supported messaging applications (such as WhatsApp)
- Sender names associated with notifications
- Message preview text contained within notifications
- Time and metadata related to those notifications
This information is accessed solely through Android’s Notification Access permission.
MessageMate does not access messaging applications directly and only processes the notification content provided by the Android operating system.
How This Information Is Used
The notification information accessed by MessageMate is used only to provide the App’s core features, including:
- Reading incoming messages aloud using the device’s text-to-speech system
- Allowing users to review recently received messages
- Maintaining a local message history to support summaries and conversation context
- Summarising busy conversations or group chats
- Applying user-defined rules to determine when and how messages should be spoken
MessageMate does not perform artificial intelligence processing on message content and does not analyse messages for advertising, marketing, or profiling purposes.
Local Storage of Message History
MessageMate stores a local history of message notifications on the user’s device.
This stored history allows the App to provide features such as:
- Conversation summaries
- Recent message activity viewing
- Avoiding repeated reading of the same message
- Managing bursts of incoming messages from busy conversations
This message history is stored only on the user’s device.
MessageMate does not transmit message content to external servers and does not store message content outside the user’s device.
Users can remove this stored information at any time by:
- Clearing the App’s data through Android system settings, or
- Uninstalling the App.
Data Sharing
MessageMate does not collect, upload, transmit, or share message content with any external servers or third parties.
All notification processing occurs locally on the user’s device.
The App does not use advertising networks, analytics services, or tracking technologies.
Third-Party Services
MessageMate does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services.
The App relies only on Android system services provided by the device operating system, including:
- Android Notification Listener Service
- Android Text-to-Speech services
These services operate according to the privacy policies of the device manufacturer and Android operating system provider.
Permissions
Notification Access
MessageMate requests Android’s Notification Access permission so that it can receive notification content from supported messaging applications.
This allows the App to:
- Detect incoming message notifications
- Read messages aloud using text-to-speech
- Maintain a local history of message notifications
- Provide summaries of message activity
This permission can be revoked at any time through Android system settings.
If notification access is disabled, MessageMate will not be able to read messages aloud or analyse message notifications.
Contacts Access (Optional)
MessageMate may optionally request Contacts permission to enable filtering messages based on specific contacts.
This permission allows the App to:
- Match incoming message senders with names stored in the user’s contacts
- Allow users to include or exclude particular contacts when messages are spoken
- Improve the accuracy of sender identification
Contact information accessed by MessageMate is used only for these filtering features and remains on the user’s device.
MessageMate does not upload, transmit, or share contact information with external servers or third parties.
If the user chooses not to grant this permission, MessageMate will still function normally but contact-based filtering features may not be available.
Users can grant or revoke this permission at any time through Android system settings.
Data Security
All information processed by MessageMate is stored locally on the user’s device.
Because MessageMate does not operate external servers and does not transmit message data, the security of stored message history depends on the security of the user’s device.
Users are encouraged to protect their devices using appropriate security measures such as device locks and system security updates.
User Control
Users maintain full control over the App’s access to their data.
Users may:
- Disable Notification Access through Android system settings
- Revoke Contacts permission at any time
- Clear stored message history by clearing the App’s data
- Uninstall the App at any time
Uninstalling MessageMate removes all locally stored message data associated with the App.
Children’s Privacy
MessageMate is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes to the App or legal requirements.
When updates occur, the revised version will be published on the webpage where this policy is hosted and the “Last updated” date will be changed accordingly.
